What is the NFAN?

The National Farm Attraction Network (NFAN) connects over 250 farm and rural attractions across the UK, making it a noteworthy memberships for those who love to visit farms to see animals.

The NFAN promotes high standards in farm attractions through its Industry Code of Practice and offers educational resources for visitors, ensuring enriching experiences.

Whether you’re planning a family outing or an educational trip, NFAN member farms offer a wide range of activities and learning opportunities, making it easier to find the perfect farm visit experience

What does the NFAN membership include?

In 2012, NFAN collaborated with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to develop an Industry Code of Practice.

This code provides essential guidelines on how visitors should interact with animals at farm and rural attractions, promoting a safe environment for both guests and animals.

The NFAN actively supports its members in implementing these guidelines through workshops, one-on-one discussions, and educational videos, demonstrating best practices for animal interaction. This commitment to excellence and safety ensures that when you visit an NFAN member farm, you’re experiencing high standards of animal welfare and visitor safety.

How do I know which farms are NFAN members?

All the farms on Tree Hub that have an NFAN certification have it clearly listed on their profile, just keep an eye out for the logo you can see on the left.

If you’d like to specifically look at only NFAN member farms, you can visit our page of NFAN member farms here.

Should I be worried if a farm is not NFAN certified?

Not even a little bit! While NFAN members commit to going to meetings, staying up to date with the latest code of conduct and being aware of what high standards in animal welfare look like, not being certified doesn’t automatically mean a farm doesn’t meet or exceed these expectations.

There are many farms in the UK with incredibly high standards of care and safety who are not members of the NFAN, they can simply be too busy to partake or just have different priorities.

While NFAN membership offers a nice level of reassurance, the absence of membership does not mean a farm is unsafe or not worth visiting. Doing a bit of research and using your judgment based on reviews or sites like this one will help you to find a farm that is worth visiting.

Hi there! My name is Edwyn and I run the treehub.co.uk website. I was inspired to create this website when I noticed that a directory of UK farms didn't already exist. I wanted the visitors to my site to be able to find the farms that fit their specific needs such as finding their favourite animal, playing on bouncy pillows, watching educational shows or understanding the average visit time. My team and I have spent hours trawling through reviews, social media posts and farm websites themselves to bring you all the farm information you could ever want, in one easy to use website.
